
In our house pie is a weekly item, because it’s just so dang good! Here is the recipe that my mom made; keep in mind she measures by eye and because she has made so many she doesn’t need a recipe but I begged her to write it out so I could share it…AND so I can make it on my own!

Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups honeycrisp or pink lady or braeburns sliced thin (about 1/4″ thick)
- 2 1/2 cups granny smith apples
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 – 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1 tablespoon chilled butter cut into small pieces
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Sugar – Demerara if you have it
Directions:
- Pre-heat oven to 400
- Place apples in a large bowl
- Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, allspice together and sprinkle over apples – toss them well
- Place in bottom crust.
- Dot with 1 tablespoon butter
- Drizzle with vanilla
- Top with crust – press edges together, fold edges under and flute
- Brush surface of dough with milk – Cut 3 1″ slits in the top dough – Sprinkle with sugar
- Place pie on a cookie sheet – Bake for 10 minutes
- Reduce oven to 250 and bake for 50 minutes
